Benefit and immigration calculators

Service Canada, the CRA and the provinces all publish the rules that decide these amounts, and they publish the rates too. What they almost never publish is a tool that puts the two together. These calculators do that, and every threshold they use links back to the government page it came from.

These are estimates, and the reason matters

Every calculator in this section produces an estimate rather than a decision. That is not a hedge to avoid responsibility — it reflects how these programmes actually work.

EI benefit rates depend on which economic region you live in, because the number of best weeks used in the calculation moves between 14 and 22 with the local unemployment rate. Ontario Works and ODSP entitlements depend on household composition, shelter cost and a list of exempt income sources that a caseworker applies. Provincial nominee points depend on documents an officer has to see. A calculator can get you close enough to plan around. It cannot approve anything, and any tool that implies otherwise is overselling itself.
